During 2018 the pottery will be running classes on most days of the week. Each participant initially signs up for a term of approximately 6 weeks duration (we follow the local authority timetable, which varies) which can then be renewed if you wish! Please see our timetable for further information about session dates. You are welcome to join us at any time during the year!
Each participant has the opportunity to learn the following skills during their initial term (usually 6 or 7 weeks).
Introduction to Hand building
• Slump moulding
• Tile making
• Slab building
• Decoration techniques
Introduction to Throwing
• Throwing a cylinder
• Turning pots and adding handles
• Throwing lids, mugs, jugs
By the end of the first courst, participants will have made a series of experimental pieces and seen these through the two-part firing and glazing process.
Once your first course is complete, you are welcome to sign up for subsequent terms. Having mastered the basics we support your creative development whilst you develop the areas that most interest you.
Sessions cost £8 per hour.* Sessions last either two or three hours, depending on the day / timing.
*To keep session costs down we charge an additional 1p per gram of fired (finished) work when you take it home. If you have to miss a session or two, don't worry, you can make it up on another date.
We offer occasional two hour taster sessions on Saturday afternoons.
In these fun sessions you have the chance to make a handbuilt piece to take home (for instance a decorative tile or tealight) and also try out throwing. We will fire your handbuilt piece before collection.
Taster sessions cost £30 per person and includes your pieces of handbuilt work.
Forthcoming tasters are planned for: 2 February, 2 March, 6 April, 4 May, 1 June and 6 July.
