Artist Kate Westcott runs weekly classes in the Crewyard – Art Barn, making creative use of the setting’s ever-changing wooded farming landscape and mature gardens as inspiration. Kate creates a calm and inspirational atmosphere, with gentle background music and access to lots of inspirational resources. Kate has a special interest in drawing and in figurative art, with experience in scenic art and surface pattern design, portraiture and nature.
When is this class?
Thursdays 9.30 am – 12.30 pm or 1 pm to 4 pm
New starters sign up for a term of between 5 and 7 weeks; we follow the local authority timetable. You can then renew for further terms for as long as you wish. Some of our attendees have been with us for years!
Classes are £28 per session and you book for the term period.
What will I learn?
All taught by Kate Westcott from a fine art perspective, Kate supports each individual to identify their own creative aspirations towards developing a confident and focused personal practice. The classes include demonstrations and an exploration of creative approaches that include drawing composition, wet and dry media, print, collage, mark-making and pattern. Attendees have the choice to participate in the exercises and exploration shared by the tutor, or work on their own ideas with bespoke support. Kate has a special interest in drawing and in figurative art, with experience in scenic art and surface pattern design, portraiture and nature.
Who is this aimed at?
Our Art classes are great for beginners just starting out, or for more advanced students wanting to brush up on their skills and understanding.
What do I need to bring?
We recommend bringing a starter kit of:
Drawing pencil set (B to 6B) & eraser
A2/3 art folder, A1 if preferred
A3/A4 sketchbook, notebook
Water based paint set, coloured pencils
Brushes / palette
In addition, a range of papers in various sizes are supplied, suitable for drawing and watercolour/gouache painting. We also provide a selection of materials and equipment for a wide range of techniques so please don’t worry if you’re not sure about what to have with you. Oxcombe provides aprons, towels etc, but please ensure you wear clothes you don’t mind getting a little messy. All refreshments included.

These sessions are aimed at adults, younger people 13+ may attend the class however are to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
