In our regular Top Studio classes, we teach all the basics of pottery – handbuilding, throwing, decorating and glazing – at the same time encouraging individual experimentation and creative expression. The studio is a welcoming space, with a log fire in winter and lots of natural light in summer. We have numerous pottery wheels as well as all the other resources required for making, including high quality tools, slab roller, extruder, a range of stoneware underglazes and glazes and several electric kilns.
Group sizes are kept at 10 people maximum, and usually many of the group are engaged in developing their own practice having learned all the key techniques. This means that new starters get special support as they explore what is possible in clay.
New starters sign up for a term of between 5 and 7 weeks; we follow the local authority timetable. You can then renew for further terms for as long as you wish. Some of our attendees have been with us for years!
Classes are invoiced termly £30.00 +vat per 3hr session / £27.00+vat per 2hr evening sessions.

Who is this aimed at?
Both complete beginners and more experienced potters are welcome on this class. We aim to meet you where you are and help you develop the skills to create work that you are proud of. These are mixed experience level classes; if you are a complete beginner and feel you would benefit from a more structured course teaching you the fundamental techniques, we also have our 6 week beginner only ‘Introduction to Ceramics Course.’ However this is not a prerequisite, our Top Studio classes are also beginner friendly, and you will be supported by our tutors to meet your goals.
What will I take away?
The possibilities are endless! There is a firing charge for all work you create, at 2.0p per gram, which can be paid for during your class by cash or card. We high fire to stoneware temperature, so that your finished work is highly durable and frost-proof.
