Nerikomi is a traditional Japanese decorative technique that involves layering coloured clays to create wonderful, intricate patterns. In this 1 day workshop, your tutor will demonstrate a range of Nerikomi block making techniques for you to try yourself with our range of coloured clay.
The morning will be spent creating your different coloured clay blocks and making some small pieces like trinket dishes and small plates to get used to the technique.
After lunch your tutor will show you how to inlay your pattern block slices into a slab of clay to create a slightly larger item like a vase or plate.
Using this technique you will be able to produce 4-5 pieces such as a jewellery dish, plates, soap dishes, and hand-built vases. Your finished pieces will be fired and clear glazed at Oxcombe, ready for collection 4-5 weeks post workshop. A fascinating process suitable for all levels, from experienced potters wanting to learn a new technique, to complete beginners.

What will I learn?

Both complete beginners and more experienced potters are welcome on this course. Perfect for those who have never touched clay, or for potters wishing to learn a new technique.

What do I need to bring?
Oxcombe provides aprons, towels etc, but please ensure you wear clothes you don’t mind getting a little messy. Bring a packed Lunch. Tea / Coffee included.

- These sessions are aimed at adults, younger people 13+ may attend the workshop however are to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
The Pottery Course will be held in the Crew Yard Studio.
