6 week Throwing Course

When is this course?

6th November – 11th December Friday Afternoons 2- 5pm

24th February – 31st March Wednesday Afternoons 2 – 5pm

What will I learn?

  1. On week one, we will cover the foundations of the ceramic process, wedging and preparing your clay, and will begin throwing with a focus on centring and basic pulling techniques.
  2. On week two we will learn how to trim your pieces on the wheel. We will then focus on throwing cylinder forms with the intention of them becoming functional drink ware.
  3. On week three we will trim our pieces from the previous week and learn to add traditionally pulled handles. We will then move onto throwing bowls.
  4. On week four we will look at more advanced trimming and adding foot rings to your thrown bowls. We will then learn how to throw plates, using a thrown batt ring.
  5. On week five we will trim our plates and then move into throwing more advanced forms, such as bottles, vases and jugs.
  6. Finally on week six, you will have the option to trim your bottle forms using a chuck, before learning to glaze your collection of pots. Your pieces will then be fired by our studio team and be ready to collect 4-5 weeks later.
