Next Steps Hand-Building Course
When is this course?
16th June – 21st July 2026 Tuesday Evenings 6-9pm.
What will I learn?
All projects are handbuilding. During this 6-week course you will level up with some more experienced clay projects. The
projects are as follows:
Week 1 Handbuilt Teapot- Pinch pots (coiling, slabs)
Week 2 Finish teapot, if teapot is complete, create matching cups (coiling/pinchpots)
Week 3 Slip stencil plates- Slabs, slip stencils and monoprinting onto paper
Week 4 Slab structures
Week 5 Green man wall hangings
Week 6 Glazing
Who is this aimed at?
This course is aimed at students who have completed the original Introduction to Ceramics course or have some previous experience and are hungry for more! The projects will be a little more challenging from the previous beginner course, and combine previous beginner course techniques, just in new projects.
What will I take away?
At the end of this 6 week block you will have created 4 or 5 projects (Teapots project is 2 weeks long). Our studio team will complete the final firing of all the glazed creations and they will be ready to collect from Oxcombe 5 weeks post-workshop.
 What do I need to bring?
Oxcombe provides aprons, towels etc, but please ensure you wear clothes you don’t mind getting a little messy. All refreshments included.
Safety
- Please ensure your safety within the ceramic studio environment and follow our health and safety guidelines.
- These sessions are aimed at adults, younger people 13+ may attend the workshop however are to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
The Pottery Course will be held in the Crew Yard Studio.
Following this course there is the opportunity to join a regular weekly class at Oxcombe where you can develop your skills and your ideas with the help and support of your tutor. These are held on various days of the week including Saturdays and evenings and are a great place to carry on learning about clay and all the amazing things you can do with it.
