Porcelain Throwing Workshop – 2 Days

When is this workshop?

5th & 6th June 2027 – 10am – 3pm each day

What will I learn?

Throughout day 1 we will be going over the technique and begin by focusing on throwing cylinders as this is the basis form of most thrown shapes. The afternoon can be spent on manipulating the shape of your pots and experimenting with curved walls to create bowl forms and vases. Jess will demonstrate throughout the day and provide focused tuition to help improve technique. We will aim for everyone to have thrown a selection of 4-5 pots by the end of the day. Day 2 will focus on trimming pots thrown the previous day, pulling handles and decorating in underglaze colours if desired.

Who is this aimed at?

Please note, throwing experience is a requirement. This means ability to centre and pull up walls confidently in stoneware or earthenware. Please do not sign onto this course if you have never thrown on the wheel. This workshop is ideal for someone who is curious about using porcelain on the wheel and eager to transfer their throwing skills to the next level using a more difficult clay body.

What will I take away?

You will be able to keep up to 4 pots from the workshop if you so wish, these will be glazed with a glossy transparent by our studio team. Your pots will be ready 4-5 weeks post workshop. Alternatively you don’t have to keep any of the pots you throw and can use the session for pure practice.

 What do I need to bring?

Oxcombe provides aprons, towels etc, but please ensure you wear clothes you don’t mind getting a little messy. All refreshments included.

• Please ensure your safety within the ceramic studio environment and follow our health and safety guidelines.
• These sessions are aimed at adults, younger people 13+ may attend the workshop however are to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

The Pottery Course will be held in the Crew Yard Studio.
